Update

We have had an eventful couple of weeks here in 4th grade. Open house was a great success, thank you to everyone who came!

We began our poetry unit in language arts. The children are having fun creating all kinds of poetry. So far they have made couplets, cinquains, acrostic poems, and diamantes. If you or your child has a favorite poem, please send it in to be shared with the class!

Our mystery reader program is off to a great start. So far my mother "Mrs. Cavanaugh" and Mrs. Timmerman, the P.E. teacher, have read to our class. We have another surprise guest coming this afternoon! There are still a couple of dates open if you would still like to sign up. Just send me an email.

In social studies we are learning all about immigration. I'm sure many of you were interviewed by your children about your family history.

In math we are into our fraction unit. The students are really catching on! Yesterday we learned to change mixed numbers into improper fractions and vice versa.

Here are a couple of photos from our Valentine's Day party.

Snow Forts

Yesterday we made snow forts outside during math class. The students had to make sure the perimeter was between 24-30 feet. They were required to measure and find the perimeter and area in both feet and inches. We had a great time outside! It was not too cold, and it was just a little snowy!

Olympics!

This week, the students participated in our classroom's Measurement Olympic Games. The Winter Olympics just so happen to be going on at the same time as our measurement unit in math. Our class participated in several events including; the cotton ball shot put, the straw javelin, the long jump, the high jump, and the paper plate discus toss. The students measured their distances in meters and centimeters. There was a gold, silver, and bronze medalist for each event. Here are some photos from the games.
