Trimester 3

I hope the kids got a chance to enjoy the great weather over their long weekend! As we begin this last trimester of 4th grade, you will notice a couple of new things happening.

Spelling- Now that we are focusing much of our word work time on critical vocabulary, the students will need to start practicing their spelling words at home each week. They receive a new list every other Monday, and are tested on the words after two weeks. There is a tic-tac-toe sheet that will be coming home with suggestions for how to study spelling. Their words should be written in their assignment notebooks.

Writing- We are working on our poetry unit in writing. The children are learning how to write many different types of poems using figurative language.

Reading- CAFE/Daily 5 groups are continuing to work on comprehension, accuracy, fluency, and vocabulary goals in small groups and one on one. We just started the book "The City of Ember" as a read aloud. We are briefly studying Greek and Latin root words this week.

Math- We are in the middle of the fraction unit right now. So far, we have covered adding and subtracting fractions & mixed numbers, and converting improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. There will be a quick quiz on Wednesday.

Enjoy the sunshine!

Ms. Cavanaugh
