Hello Families!
I hope you all enjoyed your holiday weekend, I know I did. I just wanted to post a few reminders about homework expectations as we begin our second trimester of fourth grade.
Each week students receive a Daily Geography packet on Monday. It is due on Friday. Students should be completing definitions on the back of the front page of this packet. Daily Geography is a graded assignment.
Each week students receive a Reading Log. Fourth grade students are expected to read 25 minutes per night (2nd trimester), and fill out a one to two sentence summary about what they've read. This should be completed Monday through Thursday, and then turned in on Friday. These are given an effort grade of either a check plus, check, or check minus.
We have started a new spelling curriculum known as "Words Their Way." The students were given a strategic spelling test early in the year, which placed them in a spelling list group. The lists are given out on Mondays, and we practice the words two days a week during Word Work. Students should be copying their words into their assignment notebooks to use to study. The tests will be given on Fridays.
Most nights students will have math homework. We are now in our division unit. The students are learning three different ways to do long division; Place Value Sections Method (area models), Expanded Notation Method, and the Digit by Digit Method (standard algorithm). I hope to post videos demonstrating each of these methods soon, so check back!
In addition, students are expected to be practicing basic multiplication and division facts at home. It is important that they master these facts in order to be successful with the math curriculum.
